Joshua looks out from the podium and laughs with the audience as he shares an anecdote about his dad's anxiety trying to catch him as a 4 year old autistic boy about to run obliviously into a busy road. His dad smiles sheepishly and for an instant relives the infinity and utter despair of that moment. Joshua's sisters smile knowingly alongside their dad and gently tease him, each with a light squeeze just above the elbow. Joshua's mom has her hand on dad's knee and beams with pride for her son the doctor. The first winter rains have begun to fall and she reminds herself to heat the soup first thing when they get home. Prosperous though they may be, the kids still love their mother's cooking.
